I think this might be why John Blake is important to the end of The Dark Knight Rises. Gordon-Levitt’s Blake isn’t the loner or the brawler that Bale portrayed, but is instead the detective that Batman should also be. I think it is this style of Batman, maybe in a less high-tech costume, that would sit best next to Cavill’s Superman.

Of course, you can’t have a Justice League movie without Wonder Woman, which just opens another can of worms. I don’t think they’d make her anywhere near as powerful as Superman, otherwise there would be no real team dynamic. I imagine she would fit in well as a commander and tactician, as long as Batman isn’t written in to that role. If she’s fierce too, then it will certainly bring a range of characters strong enough to make a Trinity/Justice League movie.

As I say this, I think a Trinity would be a better first step than Justice League.

I had a message from a colleague and fellow comic book fan. It was a link to a post on CBR about Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps.

I started thinking about what I like about Captain Marvel right now, and one of the things that stuck out in my mind was that I actually felt like she had a life outside of being Awesome.

I, personally, spend a great deal of my time going swing dancing, and I realised that I felt that I could ask Carol Danvers out to a swing class and she would undoubtedly say yes. It seemed to fit her quite well in my mind, it’s be a completely normal thing for her to do.

I then realised that this is the sort of thing that’s missing from quite a lot of the other characters I read about. There are so very few that I can see having a personality outside of what we see in the comics. In fact, I would say that Kelly Sue DeConnick and Gail Simone are probably the only writers to have managed this, at least in my opinion. It’s no surprise then that these comics put out by these two writers are always my most anticipated.

It’s also why I’m so desperate right now to do my own version of a Carol Danvers cosplay. I saw some pics of guys dressed as Captain Marvel from Heroes Con, so I’m even more excited to do it. I know I’m going a variation on a theme, rather than an exact representation, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.

When my friend reminded me, after my original haste, that I could have gone with him, I made the switch.

What have I noticed so far? Well the disk speed and bandwidth both seem to be considerably better than that of Rackspace, with pricing being on par with them. Some of the tools php sites I have running seem to me to be loading a lot quicker, which is always a good sign.

While the website doesn’t offer much in the way of self service at the moment, my friend has informed me that it’s all being worked on.

I’m very happy with what I’ve seen so far, and I’m definitely going to stick with them.

This is because for what I want/need, Rackspace offers a better price point. I believe I have ironed out any problems from the transfer, do to forgotten packages, etc.

Additionally, I have moved back from Nginx to Apache. It simply boils down to two things:

I have write Apache configs from memory and

Most packages come with an Apache config file, to make life nice and easy.

I kept finding myself having to look up how to do specific things with Nginx, and it grew tedious. I’m sure that sooner rather than later we will see more Nginx love, especially if Ubuntu server add it as an install option, but for now I shall go with what I know well.

So here’s the plan. Buy two identically sized hoodies, probably from H&M, zipped, in red and navy. Splice the hoodies together to make frankenhoodie, and then stitch the yellow bits on top. Underneath, maybe wear a Ms Marvel T-shirt. On the bottom half, I’ll either wear navy skinny jeans or navy combats.

Boots will probably be the red boots I wore for Red Robin, unless I can get my hands on some Red DMs for pennies over at ebay. Gloves will be red, fingerless leather gloves, and then all it needs is a red belt to match.

What I like about this costume is that it can all be used as regular clothing too.

I’m slowly working out the back end logic – for instance, you have a player name which is linked to your session, and the session can be linked to a game while it is not in progress (i.e, forming the basis for a lobby system). Now of course I need to specify how to start the game, and what to do when it starts.

I’m basically creating an API right now that the user will never see. The user will have ajax calling the API, and all it will return is who is in the game, what their cards are, and what the black card is. They will also be able to submit their card through Get data, though it’ll be rejected if it’s not in the user’s hand.

The front end should just be javascript, which reads whatever json is sent back to the user, and updates the display to match. I think I could have something that look very basic done by the end of the day. I believe I have the hardest stuff done already.
